The 2014 CrossFit Games Championships were the final stage of the eighth annual CrossFit Games and were held on July 22–27, 2014 at the StubHub Center in Carson, California. Individual athletes performed 13 workouts over the course of the weekend.
Games events are not announced until after the Regionals are over, with many events being announced days, hours, or only minutes in advance. The final event of the 2014 CrossFit Games, “Double Grace,” for example, was announced to the athletes only 30 seconds before the event started.
For the first time, prize money was awarded to every man and woman in the top 20, and CrossFit announced a Rookie of the Year (Mat Fraser) and Most Improved Athlete (Cassidy Lance), in addition to the longstanding award for Spirit of the Games (Becca Voigt).
2014 was also the end of an era: It would be the last year that Rich Froning, Jr would compete as an individual.
The 2014 men’s competition was won by Rich Froning Jr. (making this his fourth consecutive first place finish in the CrossFit Games), the women’s by Camille Leblanc-Bazinet, and the Affiliate Cup was awarded to CrossFit Invictus.
