Background: This workout is dedicated to Joseph “Joe” Loftis who passed away at the age of 26 from a heroin overdose on July 30, 2016.

He was previously attending school to be a firefighter when he hurt his back and required back surgery. His doctor prescribed opiates post-surgery and he began a fast and furious battle with addiction that ultimately ended his life and rocked the community.

Born on June 13, 1990, Joe was an athlete. He was hilarious, smart, handsome, and generous. He was a family man and truly kind-hearted.

Drug addiction, especially stemming from doctor-prescribed pain medication, can and do affect the masses in every and all communities. The mental health, addiction help that we need is lacking beyond measure. We need to step up and help those battling for their life. – Jackie Donley (Joe’s sister)

The workout was designed by Jackie Donley @mrs_jackd and Sebastian Paz @seb_felipe in partnership with Hope United whose mission is to break the stigma of addiction through education, support, and recovery. Hope United sees the whole picture of addiction and recovery and are in the process of building an addiction treatment and recovery/aftercare facility to treat the whole person (mind, body, and spirit) and providing continuous ongoing support. If you would like to join the community together to push your physical health for the benefit of those struggling with mental health problems, you can sign up here.

The rep scheme signifies:
– 26 minutes for Joey’s age when he passed away
– 6 and 13 reps for Joey’s birthday
– 11 reps for his favorite number
– 12 and 13 reps for the time when Joey and Jackie were both born, 12:13.
