Background: This memorial workout is dedicated to Jacob Hall who was the only person killed during a school shooting in a Townsville, SC elementary school when a 14-year-old opened fire on Oct. 1, 2016.

We first found this workout posted by Coach Rick Ellis @cf_rick on October 6, 2019. On that post, Rick wrote, “Jacob passed away on October 1, 2016. He said he wanted to be a superhero when he grew up so we always do the workout with a clothing item that has a superhero logo on it. If you look up his funeral you will see that everyone wore a hero costume and Batman did the eulogy.”

After contacting Rick, he told us that Jacob’s death hit him and a fellow athlete (Darrin), rather hard as they are both fathers and Darrin is a school teacher. So, to honor Jacob, they chose to create the workout.

As Rick notes, “The rep scheme signifies the day of his death, 1 (1 mile run) Oct (10th month plus a zero), and he was 6 years old (6 plus a zero).”
