Memorial WOD for Napoleon Taumoepeau

  • For Time
  • Buy-In: 3,500 meter Run
  • Then, 21 Rounds of:
  • 5 Burpees
  • 10 Push-Ups
  • 15 Air Squats
  • Cash-Out: 3,500 meter Run

With a running clock, as fast as possible perform the prescribed work in the order written. Athlete needs to complete the 3,500 meter Run first before moving on to 21 rounds of Burpees, Push-Ups, and Air Squats. After the 21 rounds, athlete needs to do the 3,500 meter Run as a cash-out.

Score is the time on the clock when the cash-out is completed.

Background: This memorial workout is dedicated to Coach Napoleon Taumoepeau of Suva, Fiji who passed away on July 21, 2018. He was found dead at his boxing gym on Brown Street in Suva. He died at the age of 40.

Napoleon, born in the USA, made his debut in professional boxing in 2009. Though he lost his first bout to Fatu Tuimanono, he remained undefeated in five subsequent bouts.

We first found this workout posted by CrossFit Coach Johnny Chung. In that post, Chung reveals that he created the workout to commemorate Napoleon, who was one of Chung’s dearest friends.

The post also mentioned that the workout was based on the classic CrossFit Hero WOD “Murph”, which was Napoleon’s favorite workout, and Chung changed it a little bit “to suit [Napoleon’s] personality.”
