Background: This hero workout is dedicated to 1st Lt. Scott “Scooter” Milley, 2nd Battalion, 30th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, US Army, who was killed in action on November 30, 2010, from wounds sustained when insurgents attacked his unit with small-arms fire in the Baraki Barak district, Afghanistan.

This workout was designed by two of the trainers at CrossFit Tilt (formerly CrossFit Union)(Sudbury, MA, USA), who are both friends of the Milley family.

The gym hosted a fundraiser and donated all the proceeds to the 1st Lt. Scott F. Milley Ranger Foundation, which was created in 1st Lt. Milley’s memory.

The Foundation supports military soldiers and families in need, financing scholarships for soldiers, as well as helping military families with flight and lodging accommodations when a soldier is injured or killed in action overseas.

“The workout is supposed to make you feel as though you’re a soldier on a mission,” co-owner of CrossFit Tilt, Gus Vello said. “A soldier carries a 55-pound rucksack while they run for miles. This workout, you’re carrying 35 pounds if you’re a male, 25 for females. It’s important to keep that in mind. Soldiers do a lot more, but we don’t always remember that.”
