About the wod
Riley was widely credited by students and responding law enforcement for saving lives by preventing the shooter from continuing to fire. Despite being shot multiple times while charging the shooter, Riley continued his attack, eventually tackling the shooter and preventing him from firing any more shots until law enforcement arrived.
We found this workout posted to the Facebook page of Riley's home affiliate, CrossFit Asheville @crossfitasheville (Asheville, NC, USA), who did a fundraiser WOD to raise money for the Riley Howell Foundation.
After reaching out to CrossFit Asheville, we learned that "Riley 21" was created as a collaboration between head coach and programmer, Marc Mazza, and Riley's long-term girlfriend Lauren Westmoreland.
Marc, who was also friends with Riley, told us that, with the help of Lauren, they chose Riley's favorite movements and created a workout "on the shorter and intense side".
