  • Wear a Weight Vest (20/14 lb)

With a running clock, as fast as possible perform the 5 movements in order for 4 rounds. Perform the entire workout wearing a Weight Vest.

Score is the time on the clock when the final round of the Bear Crawl is completed.

The Jerrycans can be carried as a Farmer’s Carry. A completely full Jerrycan is comparable to a 50 lb dumbbell. Half-full Jerrycans are comparable to a 25 lb Dumbbell (or 26 lb kettlebell). Therefore, dumbbells or kettlebells can be substituted for Jerrycans.

Background: This memorial workout is dedicated to Sergeant Major Brandon Morey, California Army National Guard, who passed away unexpectedly while in Hawaii with his family on February 16, 2020.

“SGM Morey was an amazing husband, loving father, dedicated soldier, an inspiring coach, mentor, and a thoughtful friend.”

Brandon was 42 years old and is survived by his high school sweetheart turned wife, and his two children.

As a soldier, he dedicated 24 years of his life to serving his country – 4 years in the US Army and the last 20 years in the National Guard. Brandon served in many ways including a year-long deployment to Afghanistan while his children were young.

This workout was designed by Sheridan Low, @sheridanlow who was a member of the 235th Engineer Company led by SGM Morey and Douglas Cornwell @djdoesthis who also served with Morey.

In a conversation with WODwell, Sheridan told us: “SGM Morey was one of the most influential and inspiring NCOs that I’ve ever had the honor to serve under.”

“He was my first 1SG in my career, and when I arrived at the 235th EN CO he made it clear that nothing but our best was to be expected, and he demonstrated it every day through his own example. He gave us the kind of “tough love” leadership that made you glad to have been indoctrinated into those old school sapper ways. One thing he instilled in all of us was the discipline to strive beyond the Army standards with our physical fitness, so a few of us that served with SGM Morey created and proofed this workout today in honor of his memory. We figured a memorial WOD would be the most appropriate way to pay our respects.”

The rep scheme signifies the day he passed 2/16/20. The 235 lb represents his time as Punisher 7 and Grizzly 7 with 235th EN CO.

In his honor, a GoFundMe campaign was set up for SGM Morey’s family.
