  • 4 Dumbbell Box Step-Ups (2x50/35 lb, 24/20 in)
  • 500 meter Hill Run (together)
  • Then, 10 Rounds of:
  • 3 Rope Climbs
  • 14 Alternating Partner Push-Ups
  • Buy-Out: 4,018 meter Bike

With a running clock, as fast as possible perform the prescribed work with a partner. Switch as necessary. To start the workout, athletes must complete the buy-in of 3,841 meter Bike. Then, perform the 174 foot Sandbag Carry followed by 10 rounds of 4 Sandbag Cleans and 30 Alternating Partner Sit-Ups. Complete another 174 foot Sandbag Carry, then the 500 meter Hill Run together with your partner. After the Run, perform 10 rounds of 20 Dumbbell Snatches and 4 Dumbbell Box Step-Ups, followed by another 500 meter Hill Run together. Then, accomplish 10 rounds of 3 Rope Climbs and 14 ALternating Partner Push-Ups. To complete the workout, perform the buy-out of 4,018 meter Bike.

Score is the time on the clock when the buy-out is completed.

Background: This workout is dedicated to Charlie Richardson and Harvey Hayutin, the grandfathers of the co-owners of Mensch CrossFit @menschcrossfit (Fayetteville, AR, USA), Shaina Hayutin and Mike Beaulieu who designed the workout. They have dedicated Mensch CrossFit to honor their grandfathers’ legacy.

Started in October 2020 and going forward, the grandfathers are commemorated with this workout every year. Both Charlie and Harvey were not afraid to back down from a challenge. They believed in the power of teams and hardwork. The gym, this workout, is in honor of them.

Each movement of the workout was chosen to symbolize who they were. The Push-Ups, Pull-Ups, and Rope Climbs represent their military service. The Alternating Partner Sit-Ups and Push-Ups to display their love of working with others as well as their long, loving marriages (both married until their wives passed). Lots of grind work—Sandbag Carries, Dumbbell Snatches, Dumbbell Box Step-Ups, and the Hill Runs—so the athletes can feel the kind of hardworking spirits of both men. Finally, the Bike because they both enjoyed cycling outdoors.
