Understanding that this is a longer workout, the movements performed are ones that can be quickly warmed up and taught. With 3 miles of running on top of the other movements, we are allotting for 45 minutes for the workout. We run one class in the morning, as the road close for the marathon, but one way to limit the amount of set-up necessary at each of your classes is to have equipment set up in advance. If space allows, organize stations for each movement with a variety of kettlebell weights, barbell weights, and box heights. In a atypical scenario, we will touch on brief teaching points during the group warmup to streamline the hour. If you would like more time to prep athletes, a couple options would be to cut the workout to one round or make it an AMRAP 35.

From CrossFit New England (CFNE) (Boston, MA, USA): "[This is a workout that] we do every year ... on the morning of the Boston Marathon. Athletes will alternate between 400 meter runs and 26 of a movement, one rep for every mile of the race."

This workout pre-dates the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing, but now serves as a memorial for the victims of the attack, which took place on April 15, 2013.

CFNE has posted two different workouts with similar names, "Marathon" and "Marathon Monday." The former is a 2-round workout, the latter is a very different 5-round workout.

This 2-round "Marathon" workout appears to be the older of the two, first been posted by CFNE in 2011 (before the 2013 Boston Marathon Bombing).

The 5-round "Marathon Monday" workout was posted by both CFNE and nearby CrossFit Southie a few days after the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing.

To confuse things, since then both workouts have been posted numerous times at CFNE and gyms around the world, by the same name: "Marathon Monday."
