  • AMRAP in 15 minutes
  • 5 Hang Cleans (95/65 lb)
  • 18 Double-Unders
  • 20 seconds Rest
  • Then, from 15:00-21:00:
  • 1 Rep Max Clean-and-Jerk

On a 21-minute clock, start by performing as many rounds and repetitions as possible (“AMRAP“) in 15 minutes of the Hang Cleans and Double-Unders, with 20 seconds of rest after each round. At the 15-minute mark move immediately to the Clean-and-Jerk.

Use a single barbell for both the Hang Cleans and the Clean-and-Jerks. Athlete must load their own barbell. 

Score is the total number of rounds and repetitions completed in the first part of the workout, and the heaviest Clean-and-Jerk successfully completed.

Background: This Memorial workout is in memory of Carlos Tovar of CrossFit Livermore (CFL) @cf_livermore (Livermore, CA, USA) who was killed in a tragic boating accident at the age of 41 on June 23, 2018.

CFL wrote, “His birthday was on May 18. Hence, the rep scheme for the cleans and double-unders. When he worked out, he would often do interval work – sprint, rest, sprint, then rest again. It was “his style” of AMRAP. He also loved heavy clean-and-jerks.”

After we contacted CFL, they confirmed to WODwell that Carlos was a CFL member and this workout was created by CFL owner and head coach Matt Souza.

In his response Matt told us:

“Carlos would often speed through parts of the workout and then just stand over the chalk bucket and rest for 20 seconds then speed through it then rest haha. We always gave him crap for it so that’s why the 20 seconds rest was in there and he was a big strong dude that love to max out lifts, and that’s why we choose the clean and jerk at the end. Those are all his favorite movements as well.”
