About the wod
Background: This workout is dedicated to Azaylia Cain who sadly lost her fight against a very rare sub-form of Leukaemia called Acute Myeloid Leukaemia or AML for short at only 8 months old on April 24, 2021.
Azaylia was diagnosed with AML at just 8 weeks old. The doctors didn’t give her much chance of survival but against all odds, she made it to nearly 9 months.
Born on August 10, 2020, she had a very tough life from the day she was born yet kept fighting all the way to the end. This had a lot to do with all the love she received from her parents, Ashley @mrashleycain and Safiyya, family, and everyone who knew her story.
She touched the hearts of millions including many famous people from around the world. Even Dwayne The Rock Johnson reached out to the family to show his support. Azaylia has done more in her short time on earth than most of us will ever do in a lifetime.
She’s raised so much awareness for childhood cancer, inspired over 56,000 people to donate stem cells, and has even been nominated for the Pride of Britain Award.
When her parents heard about a potentially lifesaving treatment in Singapore that could possibly cure Azaylia’s cancer. They set up a GoFundme page. Within 24 hrs they had over £1 million donated. This just goes to show how far Azaylia’s story had reached around the world.
Major tourists attractions around the world including The London Eye, Niagara Falls, Toronto’s CN Tower, and many more lit up in orange to show their support for this little girl and AML.
The workout was designed by Coach Dan of Novo Community Fitness @novo.cf (Bexhill, United Kingdom). Azaylia’s story, strength, courage, resilience, and bravery along with her parents’ strength and courage have changed his life and his way of thinking in a big way. He designed this WOD to awareness for AML and Stem Cell donation and hopefully get Crossfit HQ @crossfit to acknowledge this workout.
The name of the WOD is “Let’s Go Champ” as this was one of the hashtags Azaylia’s parents came up with during her treatment journey. They used it on nearly all of their posts and videos.
The rep scheme signifies:
– 15 seconds Clapping to honor the clap for Azaylia which was done on the 13th of April
– 710 meters for her weight when she was born, 7 lbs and 10 oz
– 8 rounds for the 8 months of her life
– 258 total reps for the number of days she was placed on this Earth to teach, inspire, educate, and show us that tomorrow isn’t promised to anyone, waking up today is the blessing itself.
