2019 French Throwdown Individual Qualifier WOD #3

  • From 0:00-3:00, perform:
  • 1 rep max Snatch
  • Then, from 3:00-13:00, perform:
  • 150 Burpees Over the Bar
  • Finally, from 13:00-16:00, perform:
  • 3 rep max Snatches

This workout is performed with a running clock. The athlete starts standing next to his loaded or unloaded bar without touching it. At 3,2,1…go, the athlete performs as many attempts as needed to find his 1RM snatch (3RM “touch and go” in the scaled category) in 3 minutes. He can adjust the load on the bar as needed. The athlete must use clips. When the clock shows 3 minutes, the athlete has ten minutes to perform his burpees over the bar. The bar must be loaded with at least one regular size bumper plate on each side. If the athlete finishes before the end of those ten minutes, he can rest and load the bar for what is coming next.

When the clock shows 13 minutes, the athlete has 3 minutes to achieve a 3 repetitions max snatch (5RM in the Scaled category). Those reps must be performed « touch and go », the bar can’t be rested on the floor in between repetitions. You are allowed to regrip the bar in the hang position but any unusual movement will be considered as a « no rep ». The workout stops at 16 minutes.

This workout will consist of workout 3A (For a max weight) and workout 3B (for time). The first score 3A is the sum of the highest load successfully lifted on the 1 RM (3RM as a Scaled) and the 3 RM snatch (5RM as a Scaled). On the 3RM or 5RM, the weight to be taken into account is the weight on the bar successfully lifted. If you have 60kg on your bar for a 3RM, your score is 60kg.

The second score 3B is the time displayed on the running clock at the end of the burpees meaning the time you took to complete all the burpees and the 3 minutes allocated to the max snatch. If you have not completed the burpees in the allocated time, your score is the number of reps completed at 13.’ Any accessory used to increase strength significantly will not be authorised. Regular knee, wrist bands or weightlifting shoes are allowed. Male athletes must use a men’s bar.

Movement Standards

Burpee Over the Bar: The movement starts with the athlete on one side of the bar. The athlete then lies on the floor; chest and thighs must touch the floor. The athlete will then stand up and jump above the bar. Both feet must take off from the floor at the same time. The rep counts when the athlete lands on the other side of the bar. No body part is allowed to touch the bar.

Snatch: For the snatch, the barbell begins on the ground and must be lifted overhead in one motion. Touch-and-go is permitted and needed on the 3 or 5 rm. No bouncing or dropping and catching the barbell on the rebound. Once dropped, the barbell must settle on the ground before the athlete begins the next repetition. Any types of snatch is permitted. The barbell must come to full lockout overhead, with the hips, knees and arms fully extended, and the bar directly over or slightly behind the middle of the body. This is not a ground to overhead anyway. When performing touch and go reps, no rest is allowed when the bar is on the floor. Resting the bar in a front or back rack is not allowed.

Background: The French Throwdown Individual Qualifier workout #3 - a two-part WOD - was the third of four total workouts for this 2019 sanctioned CrossFit® competition.

For seven years, the CrossFit French Throwdown has operated as a community-based event aimed at uniting and celebrating the growth of CrossFit affiliates throughout France, which is currently home to nearly 500 CrossFit affiliates. In 2019, the CrossFit French Throwdown is one of the 15 CrossFit Games sanctional events. The top Male and Female from the Pro Individual division and the Top Team of 4 will head to Madison, WI in August to vie for Fittest on Earth.
