This Memorial WOD was submitted to us by Manel-Iceman Sarmiento, Head Coach of CrossFit Olot (Barcelona, Spain) in memory of the terrorist attack in Barcelona, on August 17, 2017, where 15 people lost their lives.

On designing the working Sarmiento said “The purpose was create a WOD with a single objective: commemorate the victims. With a stolen van, the terrorists hit 14 people in “Las Ramblas” of Barcelona. Victim Number 15 was the owner of a stolen vehicle that the terrorists used to carry out the terrorist attack.”

The workout was adopted by boxes throughout Spain, at events in which the workout starts with 1 minute of silence (for victim number 15), then moves into the 14 minute AMRAP (one minute each of the 14 other victims). The rep scheme is based on the date of the attack: 17/08/2017.

“I simply wanted to create a balanced workout which includes movements that require practice and ability. The workout can be perfectly scaled in all movements, single unders, banded muscle-up’s, assisted pistols, or reduced weight for the power clean.”
