ATHENA to ELEMENT Transition FAQ

Why are we merging ATHENA and ELEMENT?

We still believe in the value of a female coach speaking to female athletes, and we’re developing customization options for ELEMENT that will speak to the distinct needs of female athletes. ATHENA and ELEMENT are more similar than they are different. And we can customize the ELEMENT experience to meet the needs and preferences of female athletes who prefer to train with other ladies.

We’re not doing away with a ladies-only experience, we’re building on it! We believe that other groups of athletes have distinct needs as well (e.g., masters athletes, competitive athletes, or combinations of all of the above). And we will be better able to personalize the programming experience for everyone by personalizing one core program (ELEMENT), rather than continuing to produce largely similar, but separate, programs for each audience.

Human coaches and artificial intelligence (AI) will enable us to deliver a truly individualized experience for not only females, but, say if you’re a female athlete who is also a masters athlete and who also trains at home with limited equipment, and maybe who is currently limited by a sprained ankle. This level of personalization is only possible to do effectively if we start with a single unified program.

What if I had an ATHENA membership and my subscription is canceled? Can I renew my ATHENA membership?

You can keep your current ATHENA membership and current pricing as long as your current subscription remains active. However, because new ATHENA memberships can no longer be purchased, if your subscription expires for any reason (such as due to a cancelation), if you sign up again, you will join ELEMENT.

We encourage former ATHENA members to check out ELEMENT, which will offer enhanced personalization features that will allow you to tailor your fitness experience to your specific needs.

When will the ELEMENT be upgraded to include a customized-for-females experience?

We’re currently targeting April 2025. And we’ll be communicating directly with current ATHENA members about specific timelines as we approach the final upgrade date.

We will be enhancing ELEMENT to enable a similar female-only view and enhancing the programming on the whiteboard to provide greater personalization for female athletes. ELEMENT will both address the specific needs of female athletes as well as integrate our ATHENA members into a broader co-ed community while making visibility of and interation with co-ed members optional.

When will the ATHENA and ELEMENT merge be completed?

The work to complete the merger of these two programs is already underway, and scheduled to be completed around April 2025. Meanwhile, current ATHENA members will have access to both the ATHENA and ELEMENT program until the merger is complete.

While existing ATHENA members can continue to access their membership until their current subscription period ends, no new ATHENA sign-ups are possible and all new sign-ups are being directed to ELEMENT. We’ll be communicating regularly with current ATHENA members about specific timelines as we approach the final integration date.

Will my workout data and history from ATHENA be saved?

If you are or were an ATHENA member, your ATHENA workout history, personal records, and account data from ATHENA will be preserved in your WODwell Activity Log. And you’ll be able to access the ATHENA whiteboard, even after we stop posting new workouts there. You won’t lose any of your valuable fitness tracking information.

How is ELEMENT different from ATHENA?

ELEMENT and ATHENA are more similar than different. The core programming principles are the same. The primary difference is that ATHENA offers a female-only community and programming language.

Will ELEMENT have female coaches like ATHENA did?

Yes, ELEMENT features diverse coaching staff including female coaches. We remain committed to providing representation and coaching that resonates with all athletes, including women. The personalization features of ELEMENT will allow you to select preferences for coaching that best suits your needs.

If I’m a current ATHENA member, do I need to do anything?

No action is required. You can continue using your ATHENA membership until the transition to ELEMENT is complete, at which point you’ll have access to ELEMENT.

Will there be a price difference between my ATHENA membership and an ELEMENT membership?

No, the pricing of both programs is the same. And if you have a current discounted or legacy ATHENA membership pricing, you’ll keep that pricing with ELEMENT as long as your subscription remains active.

How will ELEMENT address the specific needs of female athletes?

After the merger is complete, ELEMENT will include customization options specifically designed for female athletes. These may include tips from female coaches about how to train during pregnancy, postpartum considerations, hormonal fluctuations, pelvic floor exercises, and more. Our female coaches and AI-powered personalization engine can tailor programming to address these and other needs unique to female athletes.

Can I try ELEMENT before my ATHENA membership expires?

Yes! Current ATHENA members will be able to explore ELEMENT to familiarize themselves with the program for a few weeks prior to the final transition. When you’re on your program whiteboard, you’ll see the option at the top of the page to switch between the ATHENA and ELEMENT whiteboards. This won’t affect your current ATHENA membership.

What if I don’t want to continue as an ELEMENT member after the programs merge?

All WODwell memberships are cancelable at any time. If you have a month-to-month membership, simply cancel from your Profile Settings before your membership renewal date. If you have an annual ATHENA membership and would like to request a refund for the portion of the year you won’t use, please cancel and then email hello@wodwell.com and we’ll help with the refund.

Is there a discount for ATHENA members transitioning to ELEMENT?

The pricing of both programs is the same. But if you have a current discounted or legacy ATHENA membership pricing, you’ll keep that pricing with ELEMENT as long as your subscription remains active.
