The CrossFit Games Open (a.k.a: CrossFit Open or just The Open) is the annual online competition where any CrossFit athlete at any fitness level can see how they perform compared to others in their gym, city, state, country, and around the world. It’s also a qualifying stage of competition for athletes on the way to The CrossFit Games (Championships).
The Open is comprised of five workouts over five weeks. Open workouts are identified by their year and the order in which they appear (for example the 2014 Open started with 14.1). The workouts are released every Thursday during the five weeks of the Open, along with a live announcement of the workout.
The Open provides two ways to qualify for the CrossFit Games Championships. The top man and woman from each country (based on country of citizenship) with at least one affiliate in good standing will be crowned a National Champion and earn a spot to the Games. Along with National Champions, the top men and women worldwide also qualify automatically for the CrossFit Games.
The Open, with hundreds of thousands of participants, is the largest sporting event in the world.
